After the stress of promoting Radiohead's acclaimed 1997 album OK Computer, songwriter Thom Yorke envisioned a radical change in direction. The band incorporated synthesisers, drum machines, strings and brass, drawing influence from electronic music, ambient music, krautrock, jazz, and 20th-century classical music. They recorded Kid A with OK Computer producer Nigel Godrich in Paris. Kid A - Radiohead. Kid A is the fourth studio album by English rock band Radiohead. It was first released on 2 October 2000 in the United Kingdom by Parlophone and a day later in the United States by Capitol Records. After suffering a near-mental breakdown while touring in support of their previous album OK Computer 1997, the band's lead singer and songwriter Thom Yorke envisioned a slight change in musical direction for their next album. As a result, Radiohead incorporated synthesisers, drum machines, and the ondes. Released October 2, 2000. Kid A Tracklist. Everything in Its Right Place Lyrics. Kid A Lyrics. Radioheads previous album OK Computer 1997 may have introduced experimental elements into their sound, but it didnt become apparent until its follow-up Kid A was released in 2000. It was recorded following an exhaustive world tour in support of OK Computer, which left many of the bands members burnt out, especially lead singer Thom Yorke, who nearly suffered a mental breakdown and began having writers block. Daunting expectations for anyone, even for a band eager to meet them, so it's little wonder that Kid A was so difficult to complete. Radioheads creative breakthrough arrived when the band embraced electronica - which was nearly a cliché by the end of the '90s, when everyone from U2 to Rickie Lee Jones dabbled in trip-hop or techno. The difference is that the wholehearted conversion on Kid A fits, since OK Computer had already flirted with electronica and its chilly feel. Genre: Experimental Rock. The fans will persevere and discover that Kid A is not only Radiohead's bravest album but its best one as were hunched over their instruments. Thom Yorke slowly beat on a grand piano, singing, eyes closed, into his microphone like he was trying to kiss around a big nose. Colin Greenwood tapped patiently on a double bass, waiting for his cue. White pearls of arena light swam over their faces. Even the heralded OK Computer has been nudged down one spot in Valhalla. Kid A makes rock and roll childish. Considerations on its merits as rock i. its radio fodder potential, its guitar riffs, and its hooks are pointless. Comparing this to other albums is like comparing an aquarium to blue construction paper. Radiohead - Kid A review: Everything In Its Right Place: Looking at Kid A at the End of the Decade.
