Groovin' High is an influential 1945 song by jazz composer and trumpeter Dizzy Gillespie. The song was a bebop mainstay that became a jazz standard, one of Gillespie's best known hits, and, according to Bebop: The Music and Its Players author Thomas Owens, the first famous bebop recording. The song is a complex musical arrangement based on the chord structure of the 1920 standard originally recorded by Paul Whiteman, Whispering, with lyrics by John Schonberger and Richard Coburn. Erroll Garner 19211977 was a U. jazz pianist and composer, whose distinctive and melodic style brought him both popular acclaim and the admiration of his peers. Erroll Louis Garner was born on 15th June 1921 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and began playing the piano at the age of three. At the age of seven he began appearing on radio station KDKA in Pittsburgh with a group called the Candy Kids. Stan Getz is only on three of the numbers, teamed up with altoist Willie Smith, trumpeter Charlie Shavers and vibraphonist Red Norvo for How High the Moon, I Got Rhythm and Body and Soul. The other two selections Groovin' High and Hot House are more bop-oriented and feature tenor-saxophonist Wardell Gray, trumpeter Howard McGhee and altoist Sonny Criss. The music is loose but has some exciting moments, even if the jumbled personnel listing makes it difficult to know who is on which selection. Groovin' High is a bop music album recording by STAN GETZ released in 1956 on CD, LPVinyl andor cassette.
